The possibility of the monarchy returning in Nepal

Recently, there have been various movements in Nepal advocating for the return of the monarchy. Some groups see the monarchy as a symbol of stability and national identity. These groups have been organizing rallies, campaigns, and programs to promote their agenda. However, Nepal’s Constitution of 2015 officially declared the country a federal democratic republic, making the reinstatement of the monarchy unlikely without a constitutional amendment or significant political changes. The possibility of the monarchy returning depends on several key factors: 1. Public Support: The extent to which the majority of Nepali citizens are committed to the republic and their views on the monarchy. 2. Political Parties: Unless major political parties support the reinstatement of the monarchy, it will struggle to gain substantial traction. 3. Global Pressure: The international community has been largely supportive of Nepal's democratic system, which may discourage attempts to revert to a monarchy. Nepal’s younger generation, who are more connected to democratic ideals, also play a crucial role in shaping the country’s political landscape. While some groups may continue to push for change, the likelihood of the monarchy’s return seems low in the current context. That said, political scenarios can evolve unpredictably, and the return of the monarchy would depend on how the political landscape and public sentiment develop in the future.
